GM, Ford & Chrysler Guided Diagnostics

In this set of three DVDs, Dr. Norman Nall and Bill Peek show you the manufacturer specific procedures for diagnosing the most common areas of the computer control system. Technicians frequently try to use operating principles valid for one manufacturer to diagnose vehicles from another manufacturer. Often times, this can make quick and accurate diagnosis difficult. This collection will bring you up to the level of an experienced dealer technician who has a complete understanding of his manufacturer’s vehicles.

A simple thing like checking the alternator is more complex when you factor in the way that GM, Ford and Chrysler control their alternators. Newer Fords have a PCM-to-alternator communications system where the PCM communicates the target voltage for current operating conditions, while GM has an ON/OFF control and lets the internal regulator set the target voltage. Chrysler uses the PCM to control field current which replaces the regulator. If you are going to replace an expensive alternator take a minute to make sure you have checked it out properly. It will only take you five or ten minutes. Crank pick-ups, cam pick-ups, MAF, MAP, starter control with anti-theft and ignition control have the same types of differences.

EVAP Diagnostics

It has very strict temperature parameters and all the OEM documentation refers to how the monitor self tests, but we show you that you don’t have to stick to the “one time a day only” tests.
